Things You Might Not Know About MGPL

Even if you've lived in Morton Grove your whole life and used the Library since you were a kid in Youth Services, there might be a few things you don't know...

- You can reserve a computer!  Adults and teens in 7th grade and up all use the computers across from the Reference Services Desk.  A lot of times they are all full, but you can reserve the next available computer or even one for later.  If it's Monday and you know you're going to finish a paper Thursday evening, you can book a computer for three days in advance!  Want to learn how to do it?  Ask us at the Reference Services Desk to show you!

- You can request an item from another library!  If we don't own something you were hoping to get from MGPL, ask for help at the Reference Services Desk.  We can tell you where it is and might be able to borrow it from another library for you.

- You can get help from a live tutor online or use another great electronic resource for free!  Go to databases.webrary.org to access them, and if you want help figuring out which one to use, just ask!

- You can chat with a librarian from home!  We can put a book on hold for you, help you find information, and a lot more when you IM us.  Just go to chat.webrary.org and if we're online, start chatting!

The Hunger Games!

How much did you love The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins?  Are you Team Gale or Team Peeta?  Is Katniss your favorite female character in a teen book?  What would you do if you were in the Games?

The next teen book discussion - R.E.A.D.: Read, Eat, and Discuss - is Monday, September 27th at 7pm upstairs in the Estelle Cooperman Board Room.  Come talk about the book, enjoy snacks, play The Hunger Games Jeopardy, and win prizes!  We'll also talk about other awesome books you might like when you've finished the trilogy.  Registration is required and open now!  Register online at calendar.webrary.org, visit the Reference Services or Youth Services desk, or call (847) 929-5101.

AND if you're on Facebook, we're discussing The Hunger Games on MGPL's Facebook Fan Page too!  Just go to our Fan Page, become a fan, and click on the Discussions tab to join in.  We want to hear what you think!

Do We Have a Deal for You!

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month and now is the perfect time to get yourself an MGPL card!  There are 65 businesses in Morton Grove offering discounts or free gifts when you show your Morton Grove Public Library card.  Just stop by one of the participating businesses, show your card, and enjoy!  To see the list of participating business, go to http://www.webrary.org/inside/specialcard.html

If you don't have a Library card and are under 18, stop by the Circulation Desk with a parent or guardian.  Sign up or renew your card during the month of September and you'll receive a free book tote to carry all of the books, video games, cds, dvds, and magazines you check out!  Go to getacard.webrary.org for more info on getting a Library card.

If you tell a "card-less" resident to get a card and they give your name when they sign up, you'll receive a chance to win a pair of movie tickets!
